Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Highlights the Role of Waterways in India’s Transformation
Assam: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, underscored the vital role of waterways in driving India’s development, attributing transformative advancements to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies over the past decade.
Speaking on the potential of water-based cargo transportation, Sonowal emphasized its numerous benefits over traditional road transport, calling it “quicker, cheaper, and more eco-friendly.” He highlighted the government’s initiative to promote water-based transport through a 35% transportation incentive, available for the next three years.
Urging businesses and stakeholders to capitalize on this opportunity, Sonowal reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s vision, stating, “Without transportation, there can be no transformation.” He also called for continuous reforms to ensure progress, stressing the need to “reform, perform, and transform” to achieve India’s development goals.
The push for waterways aligns with the government’s broader commitment to sustainable and efficient transport solutions, aimed at reducing logistical costs and enhancing connectivity across the nation.
