Assam: AIUDF MLA Dr. Rafiqul Islam Criticizes PM Modi’s Remarks on ‘Secular Civil Code’
Assam: AIUDF MLA and Party General Secretary Dr. (Hafiz) Rafiqul Islam has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks in Parliament regarding the ‘Secular Civil Code.’
In his address, Dr. Islam argued that the term “Secular Civil Code” was misleading, asserting that India already has a secular framework in place.
“He should not call it the ‘Secular Civil Code’ but rather the ‘Hindu Civil Code,'” Dr. Islam remarked, accusing the Prime Minister of using the concept of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to target the cultural and religious diversity that characterizes India.
Dr. Islam further pointed to the implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand, suggesting that PM Modi is planning to extend this model to other parts of the country. “India is a land of multiple religions, each with its unique customs and traditions, which cannot simply be changed,” he emphasized, urging respect for the country’s pluralistic heritage.
His comments reflect concerns over the potential impact of the UCC on the diverse cultural and religious fabric of India, with Dr. Islam calling for greater attention to preserving this diversity.
