Chetan Chengpa Crowned King of Offroading as Arunachal Rally Ends in Style
Itanagar: The off-road rally in Arunachal Pradesh concluded on a thrilling note at the dramatic Bizari Mayhem stage, pushing competitors to their limits through some of the toughest terrain seen in the competition. Spectators gathered to witness the finale, marked by a blend of grit, skill, and high-octane action.
Leading the charge was Ujjal Namsum, who fearlessly tackled the infamous swamp, using a tractor and JCB to winch himself through the treacherous muck. His determination set the tone for a day of intense racing, with Vivek Gujral following suit in a similarly dramatic fashion. The swamp and trench along Bizari’s state road proved to be formidable obstacles, testing even the most seasoned competitors.
Despite a mechanical failure that sidelined him in the final stage, Chetan Chengpa emerged as the undisputed King of Offroading for 2024. His consistency over the first two days of the rally gave him an unassailable lead, cementing his top position.
Aditya Mein of Team MOCCA delivered a surprising performance, securing third place after overcoming a breakdown on the second day. His resilience and strategic approach ensured a well-deserved spot on the podium. Meanwhile, Ujjal Namsum and Tseng Tsing Mein were jointly honoured with the Best Sportsman Spirit Award for their camaraderie and unwavering support of fellow competitors, reflecting the true ethos of the sport.
In the stock category, Nabam Katung showcased remarkable perseverance, clawing his way past Jaong Mirip Singpho to claim second place, with Atong Tithak of Jairampur finishing in third. Katung’s skillful navigation of the challenging course stood out as a highlight of the event.
Nang Suhana received the Best Women Category Award, celebrating her outstanding performance and contribution to the sport, further underscoring the inclusivity of the rally.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Kento Jini, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, along with rallying legend Hari Singh and other dignitaries. Their presence underscored the event’s growing stature, solidifying Arunachal Pradesh’s position as a hub for off-roading enthusiasts. The rally’s dramatic conclusion and the display of skill and sportsmanship leave no doubt about the event’s resounding success.
