Assam: Woman Dies After Injection at Boko Hospital, Alleged Medical Negligence Sparks Outrage

Assam: A tragic incident has unfolded at a private healthcare facility in Boko, where a young woman, Himani Kalita, lost her life after receiving an injection.

The incident, which occurred on December 12, 2024, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for a thorough investigation into allegations of medical negligence.

The Assam Nationalist Youth Student Council (ANYSC) and its sister organization, the National Women’s Wing, have taken the lead in demanding justice for the deceased. They have submitted a memorandum to the Kamrup Rural District Commissioner, highlighting the alleged negligence of the medical staff at the Polyclinic and Birthing Center.

The organizations claim that Kalita, who was admitted for a routine treatment of diarrhea, succumbed to the effects of the injection administered by the hospital staff. They assert that the untimely death could have been prevented had proper medical care been provided.

In their memorandum, the groups have strongly condemned the alleged negligence and demanded a high-level inquiry to determine the exact cause of death. They have also called for strict action against the doctor responsible for administering the fatal injection.

Furthermore, the organizations have demanded a substantial compensation of Rs 30 lakh for the victim’s family. They have warned that if their demands are not met, they will resort to intense democratic protests, including the closure of the hospital’s main gates.
