Meghalaya: Woman Set Ablaze by Husband in West Jaintia Hills, Committee Vows Justice
Shillong: A heart-wrenching incident of domestic violence has shaken the peaceful Niriang Village in West Jaintia Hills. A mother of six, including a toddler, was brutally set ablaze by her own husband, leaving her with severe injuries.
The Committee on Empowerment of Women, led by Chairperson Santa Mary Shylla, visited the survivor on Tuesday. Deeply disturbed by the horrific act, Shylla assured the victim of all necessary support and vowed to pursue justice. “This is a heinous crime, and we will not rest until the perpetrator faces the full force of the law,” she declared.
The committee, along with local authorities, is working tirelessly to provide medical aid and psychological counseling to the victim. They have also initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla highlighted the government’s commitment to aiding victims of domestic violence. He assured the public that the victim would receive immediate financial assistance through schemes like Ayushman Bharat and the Victim Compensation Scheme.
The incident has ignited public outrage, with calls for stricter laws and increased awareness about domestic violence. The community is urged to come forward and report such cases to prevent further tragedies.
