Jyotiraditya Scindia Highlights Sharp Decline in Insurgency, Development Surge in Northeast
Assam: Union Minister for the Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, lauded the transformative strides in the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, citing a remarkable reduction in insurgency and significant infrastructure development.
Speaking in an interview with ANI, Scindia highlighted that the number of insurgents laying down arms has surged to 70-75%, reflecting the success of peace-building initiatives in the region.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Manipur, Scindia acknowledged its deeply rooted complexities, clarifying that the challenges are not recent but have spanned over 25 to 40 years.
“The central government, in collaboration with the state, is fully committed to finding an amicable solution. Dialogue with all factions is ongoing,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s proactive approach to resolving the crisis.
Scindia pointed to a significant 80% drop in conflict incidents in the Northeast over the past decade, attributing the decline to a series of path-breaking peace agreements facilitated under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He praised these accords for integrating former insurgents into mainstream society and fostering stability across the region.
“The Northeast has undergone astounding progress and development in recent years,” Scindia said, underscoring the region’s transformation as a testament to the government’s dedication to integrating it into India’s broader growth narrative.
The minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and accelerating development, making the Northeast a vital contributor to the nation’s prosperity.
