Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Highlights Longstanding Challenges and Progress in Manipur and Northeast
Imphal: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia addressed the ongoing crisis in Manipur, emphasizing that the issues plaguing the state are not recent but have persisted for decades.
Speaking on December 17, Scindia clarified that the challenges in Manipur span 25 to 40 years, countering narratives that attribute the crisis to recent developments.
“Manipur is not a situation that has occurred in the last year, the last five years, or the last ten years. It has been there for the last 25 to 40 years,” Scindia remarked. He stressed that the central and state governments are fully committed to addressing the situation and finding a lasting solution. “The central government is seized of the matter,” he added, highlighting ongoing efforts to engage with all factions to foster peace.
Scindia also highlighted the remarkable strides made in the broader Northeast region under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, particularly in terms of infrastructure development and economic growth.
He noted that conflict-related incidents in the region have dropped by nearly 80% over the past decade, showcasing the success of peace initiatives. Additionally, the integration of insurgents into mainstream society has significantly increased, signaling a shift towards long-term stability.
Scindia attributed these positive changes to the proactive policies and peace agreements facilitated by the central government. “The progress and development witnessed in the Northeast underscore the government’s commitment to peace and prosperity in the region,” he said.
The Minister’s remarks reflect the government’s dual focus: addressing longstanding issues like those in Manipur while simultaneously fostering development and integration in the Northeast. These efforts aim to position the region as a critical contributor to India’s growth story.
