Assam: Mother and Daughter Drown in Barak River Accident

Assam: In a heartbreaking incident, a mother and her young daughter lost their lives after their vehicle plunged into the Barak River in Assam’s Cachar district late Tuesday night.

The victims, identified as Helena Begum Borbhuyan and her daughter Jannatara Begum, were returning home to Barakhala Mohanpur from Silchar, where they had gone for a medical consultation.

The tragic accident occurred when their Alto car veered off the road and plunged into the river. While the father, Rais Uddin, managed to escape by breaking a car window, his wife and daughter were swept away by the strong currents.

Local authorities, including the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), immediately launched a search and rescue operation.

After an extensive search throughout the night, the bodies of the mother and daughter were recovered from the river on Wednesday morning. Rais Uddin, who sustained injuries in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College Hospital.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing their condolences to the bereaved family.
