Six Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Tripura for Illegal Entry
Agartala: The Tripura police detained six Bangladeshi nationals, including two minors, from Subhas Park in Khowai district on the night of December 19.
The detainees were staying at Roy Guest House near Khowai District Hospital and were found without proper identification during an interrogation by law enforcement authorities.
According to Subir Malakar, Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station, the detainees initially provided contradictory statements, raising suspicion.
Upon further questioning at the police station, they admitted to entering India illegally a few days earlier and traveling to New Delhi before returning to Tripura with the intent of exfiltrating back to Bangladesh.
The detainees were identified as Md Kabir (37), Tania Begum (35), Md Sakib (6), Sahida (5), Mumin (23), and Ayesa Khatun (70). Police also recovered several Indian ID cards that the group had reportedly obtained illegally.
Malakar stated that the detainees claimed they had entered India in search of work. Tripura, which shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, frequently faces challenges related to illegal cross-border movement. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full details of their activities and how they managed to procure forged documents.
