Sikkim: IAF and Indian Army Successfully Evacuate Injured SSB Personnel in Joint Operation

Gangtok: The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army successfully carried out a casualty evacuation (casevac) operation on December 20, rescuing 10 personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) who were injured in a bus accident near Zuluk, close to Gangtok.

The accident, which occurred in the morning, prompted immediate action. The IAF, upon receiving information about the incident at 11:15 am, swiftly deployed two Cheetah helicopters and one Mi-17V5 helicopter from Bagdogra Airbase. Within an hour, the helicopters were airborne and on their way to the accident site.

Despite challenging weather conditions and the high-altitude location of approximately 9,000 feet at the Zuluk helipad, the helicopters managed to successfully evacuate the injured personnel. The victims were airlifted to military hospitals in Gangtok and Bengdubi for further treatment.
