Manipur Minister Rebuts Congress Claims on Legislative Assembly Sessions
Imphal: Manipur Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh has dismissed allegations by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee regarding the non-convening of three legislative assembly sessions this year.
Addressing a press conference, the minister clarified that while the state assembly’s rules of procedure suggest three sessions annually, the Indian Constitution mandates a minimum of two sessions.
Singh pointed out that the Congress party itself had failed to adhere to the constitutional requirement in several years during its tenure. He further emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding constitutional provisions and the assembly’s rules, acknowledging the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent events of May 3, 2023. The minister assured that the government is diligently working towards fulfilling all constitutional obligations.
