Manipur CM N Biren Singh Reviews Police Infrastructure and Law Enforcement Reforms
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inspected the Manipur Police Firing Range at Wairi Pangei, Imphal, on December 26 and reviewed the construction of temporary barracks for newly recruited personnel.
The move reflects the government’s focus on strengthening law enforcement amidst the state’s current challenges.
During the visit, CM Singh announced that 1,946 recruits from the 10th and 11th Indian Reserve Battalions (IRB), recently trained in Assam, will be deployed in temporary barracks.
These battalions, formed for highway protection duties, will also include 800–1,000 recruits undergoing special commando training to enhance rapid-response capabilities for law and order management.
Additionally, infrastructure development is ongoing at the battalion headquarters of the 10th IRB in Nungba and the 11th IRB in Saivom. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of refresher training to ensure police personnel remain fit and prepared.
To address incidents of mob violence, the government is procuring protective equipment, including helmets, for officers. CM Singh strongly condemned attacks on police personnel during crowd control, stressing that such acts undermine the force’s morale.
The Chief Minister also urged families of recruits to avoid seeking political influence in transfer and postings, allowing personnel to work under established government policies.
Addressing the issue of displaced families in relief camps, CM Singh assured that they will be relocated to prefabricated houses under construction at Phubala and other areas.
The inspection was attended by key officials, including Ministers Govindas Konthoujam and Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, Deputy Commissioner Imphal East Khumanthem Diana Devi, and others.
