Imphal: The Manipur police apprehended two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) on December 26 in a decisive operation at Awang Wabagai Lamkhai, Imphal West.
The arrested individuals, Md. Imtiaz Khan (45) and Irengbam Gulapi Singh (43), were allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting brick farms, schools, oil pumps in Pangei and Khongampat areas, and a health centre in Sekmai.
During the arrest, the police recovered two mobile handsets, two wallets containing Rs 1,100, identity documents including an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a driving licence, along with a two-wheeler. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to dismantle extortion networks linked to banned outfits in the region.
Meanwhile, security forces continued their extensive search operations and area domination exercises across Manipur’s vulnerable hill and valley districts. As part of these measures, the safe passage of essential goods was ensured, with 186 and 234 vehicles moving securely along National Highways 37 and 2, respectively.
To strengthen security, strict measures were implemented in sensitive areas, and convoys were provided for high-risk stretches. Additionally, a total of 108 Nakas and checkpoints were established across various districts, ensuring vigilant monitoring and maintaining order in the state.
These efforts reflect the ongoing commitment of the Manipur police and security forces to combat insurgency, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure the safety of citizens in the region.
