Assam: The 30th Assam Master Athletic Championship 2024 commenced on Friday at Kokrajhar Sai Stadium, bringing together over 1,200 athletes from 23 districts across the state.
Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma inaugurated the three-day event, which runs until December 30, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and athletic excellence.
During the opening ceremony, Minister Brahma underscored the championship’s importance in fostering sports talent and enhancing the profile of athletics in the region. “This platform is a testament to the dedication and potential of our athletes, offering them an opportunity to shine and inspire others,” he said.
The event was graced by the presence of MLA Lawrence Islary and officials from the Master Athletic Association, highlighting the collaborative effort to promote sports at the grassroots level.
Athletes of various age groups are competing in multiple categories, showcasing their skill, endurance, and passion for athletics. The championship stands as a vibrant celebration of Assam’s rich sporting culture, uniting seasoned competitors and fostering a sense of community and pride in the state’s athletic prowess.
