Arunachal Pradesh Governor Stresses the Importance of Compassion and Mental Health Care
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K. T. Parnaik, on December 27, called for a society where compassion is the norm and mental health care is universally accessible.
He highlighted the importance of treating mental health as a right rather than a privilege, urging everyone to contribute towards a more inclusive and supportive environment for those facing mental health challenges.
During an event at Raj Bhawan in Itanagar, Governor Parnaik presented a cheque of Rs 30 lakh to Deepak Nabam Living Home, a shelter for the destitute, under the Mukhya Mantri Manasik Swasthya Yojana Society, a state government initiative aimed at promoting mental health. Parnaik emphasized that individuals suffering from mental illness have the potential to recover, grow, and thrive when provided with the right care and opportunities.
The governor stressed the need to break the stigma surrounding mental health and to ensure that those affected by it receive the necessary support and inclusion. He noted that mental health is often overlooked, with misconceptions and stigma making it harder for individuals and their families to seek help. This neglect, he added, causes significant hardship for individuals, families, and communities alike.
Governor Parnaik concluded by underscoring that promoting mental wellness is not just the responsibility of the government or organizations but a collective duty for all members of society.
