Joint Operations Destroy Poppy Plantations in Manipur, FIR Registered

Imphal: In a continued crackdown on illegal drug production, a joint operation led by the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate successfully destroyed seven acres of poppy plantations in the T. Lhanghoimol area of Churachandpur district on December 27.

Authorities have confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and prosecute those involved in cultivating the illicit crop.

This operation follows a similar action on December 23, where security forces eradicated 22 acres of poppy plantations in the Kangpokpi district. The operation targeted fields in Kotlen and Holjang villages along IT Road, clearing 5 acres in Kotlen and 17 acres in Holjang.

The December 23 effort involved a coordinated team from the Kangpokpi District Police, A/155 CRPF, and E/112 CRPF, demonstrating the strong collaboration between local law enforcement and central security forces in combating the drug trade in Manipur.

The destruction of poppy fields underscores the commitment of authorities to address the growing concerns of illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in the region. Further investigations and enforcement actions are expected as part of the broader campaign to curb the production and distribution of illicit drugs.
