Manipur Police Arrest PREPAK Cadres, Recover Arms and Explosives in Extensive Security Operations

Imphal: In a significant development, Manipur Police arrested two active cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district.

The arrested individuals, identified as Leishangthem Napoleon Meitei (35) and Thokchom Amujao Singh (33), were reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting various individuals, including elected representatives.

During the operation, police recovered three mobile handsets, twelve demand letters, and a four-wheeler from the duo. Authorities are investigating their involvement in other illicit activities and connections within the outlawed outfit.

Meanwhile, security forces intensified operations across the hill and valley regions of Manipur, leading to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in separate incidents.

In Churachandpur district’s Muallam Village on December 28, security forces recovered:

  • One INSAS Excalibur rifle with a magazine
  • One 9 mm country-made pistol with a magazine
  • One single-barrel rifle with a magazine
  • Three INSAS ball rounds

Similarly, in Saivom Village, Tengnoupal district, on December 27, a larger arsenal was uncovered, including:

  • Two .303 rifles with two magazines
  • One 12-bore single-barrel country-made gun
  • One pompi country-made gun
  • Seven IEDs (big and medium)
  • Five hand grenades
  • Five pompi ammunition rounds
  • Forty detonators
  • Sixty live rounds of ammunition
  • Three mine detonators
  • One Motorola radio set with five chargers

Authorities emphasized that these operations aim to dismantle militant networks and enhance public safety in the region. The seized items are under analysis to gather further leads, while investigations continue into the extent of the arrested cadres’ activities.

Security forces have reiterated their commitment to curbing insurgent activities and ensuring peace and stability in the state through vigilant and sustained efforts.
