Assam Allocates Rs 25 Crore Pension Fund for Public Transport Workers
In a major step towards improving the welfare of public transport workers, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the allocation of a Rs 25 crore fund for their pensions. The announcement, made during a speech at the Secretariat Administration, also included a commitment to add an additional Rs 50 crore to the fund in the next fiscal year.
This initiative, which will be incorporated into the state’s budget, aims to address long-standing financial challenges faced by public transport workers, many of whom have not previously received pension benefits. The move is expected to provide much-needed financial security and a sense of relief to workers in this essential sector.
Alongside the pension fund, CM Sarma unveiled plans for a Mini Integrated Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Khanapara, signaling the government’s focus on enhancing the state’s transport infrastructure. The dual initiatives underscore Assam’s commitment to improving both the livelihoods of transport workers and the quality of public transportation.
Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Minister of Industries and Commerce, Skill Employment & Entrepreneurship Jogen Mohan have been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the pension scheme. Their leadership will ensure that the funds are managed and distributed effectively, benefitting workers across the state.
The government’s efforts highlight its dedication to supporting essential workers and improving their overall well-being, marking another step forward in Assam’s development journey.
