Fog Disrupts Flight Operations at Guwahati International Airport, Passengers Advised to Check Schedules

Guwahati: Flight operations at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati were severely impacted on January 3 due to dense fog, resulting in reduced visibility.

According to airport authorities, 14 flights were canceled, and over 30 others faced delays as weather conditions disrupted the day’s schedule.

In an official statement, LGBIA confirmed the extent of the disruption, saying, “The total operation was disrupted. Due to this, 14 flights were canceled and more than 30 delayed.” To mitigate passenger inconvenience, additional airport personnel were deployed across the terminal to provide necessary assistance.

Highlighting its commitment to passenger safety and comfort, the airport added, “LGBIA has made provision for additional seating and water for passengers. We request passengers to connect with their respective airlines and check the schedule before arrival at the airport. The safety and well-being of our passengers, employees, and partners remains our top priority.”

The foggy conditions in Guwahati mirrored similar challenges faced in Delhi earlier on Friday. The Delhi Airport Authority issued an advisory stating that flights not equipped with CAT III technology, which enables low-visibility landings, were affected. The advisory emphasized that passengers should stay updated through their respective airlines.

The disruption at Guwahati and Delhi airports underscores the challenges of operating in adverse weather conditions during the winter months, with authorities prioritizing passenger safety while working to minimize inconvenience.
