Bridge Connecting Lachung and Katao in North Sikkim Collapses, Truck Trapped
Gangtok: A bridge connecting Lachung and Katao in North Sikkim collapsed on Saturday, trapping a truck on the structure. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, according to authorities. The collapse has caused significant disruption to movement, leaving several vehicles stranded on both sides of the bridge.
In response to the incident, an alternative bridge has been made operational to ensure continued connectivity in the region. Officials have reassured the public that all hotels in Lachung are within a five-minute walking distance, minimizing inconvenience for tourists.
Pipon Lachung Dzomsa has appealed to the relevant authorities to continue issuing permits as usual to prevent further disruptions for visitors. Additionally, the Mangan-Lachung-Yumthang-Zero Point road remains fully open and accessible for all types of vehicles, providing travelers with an alternate route to reach their destinations.
