Assam Police Launches Manhunt After Three Detainees Escape From Goalpara Transit Camp
Assam: The Assam police have launched a massive search operation to apprehend three suspected Rohingyas who escaped from the detention transit camp in Goalpara’s Matia on the night of January 2. The trio reportedly took advantage of the darkness to jump the walls of the centre, officials said.
The escape was discovered on Friday during a routine attendance check by the centre’s staff. The detainees have been identified as Bodi Alam, Mustafa Kamal, and Abdul Kader.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Akhilesh Singh, visited the detention camp on Saturday to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
The Matia detention centre, operational since January 2023, houses individuals alleged to be foreigners in the state. Police have intensified efforts to locate the escaped detainees, and further details are awaited as investigations continue.
