Assam Congress Charts Roadmap for 2026 State Elections

Assam: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by its President Bhupen Kumar Borah, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to challenge the ruling BJP government in the upcoming **2026 state elections. Borah, exuding confidence, declared the Congress’s intent to return to power, ending the tenure of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s term will end after 490 days, on May 10, 2026. Congress will return to power after that,” Borah stated, emphasizing the party’s readiness to revitalize its organizational framework and engage with the electorate.

The Congress’s immediate focus will be the panchayat elections, scheduled for January and February 2025. Borah announced a detailed plan to restructure the party from the booth level to the state level, ensuring a robust foundation for the upcoming assembly polls.

As part of its outreach strategy, the APCC plans to launch two major state-wide initiatives. The first phase, the “Jonai to Sonai Yatra,” will cover 45 assembly constituencies, while the second phase, the “Sadiya to Mandia Yatra,” will traverse 47 constituencies, encompassing nearly the entire state. These yatras aim to connect with voters, strengthen grassroots support, and amplify the party’s vision for Assam.

In addition, the Congress will actively participate in the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Yatra,” a nationwide campaign dedicated to promoting constitutional values and inclusivity. Borah assured that every Congress worker and leader, from grassroots activists to senior state-level representatives, would take part in this initiative.

The roadmap reflects the Congress’s resolve to regain political momentum in Assam and position itself as a viable alternative to the BJP-led government.
