Assam Launches ‘Gunotsav 2025’ to Evaluate Over 14 Lakh Students
Guwahati: The Assam government inaugurated the first phase of its flagship educational initiative, Gunotsav 2025, on January 6. Focused on the theme “Ensuring Quality Education”, the exercise aims to evaluate the academic performance of 14.11 lakh students across 16,056 schools in the state. This phase will run until January 9, covering 11 districts.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu highlighted the initiative’s comprehensive scope and the collaborative efforts involved. “Gunotsav 2025, themed ‘Ensuring Quality Education,’ will evaluate 14,11,874 students across 16,056 schools with the assistance of 6,365 external evaluators. Everyone’s cooperation and active participation are earnestly requested to ensure its successful completion, fostering a higher standard of education for the future of Assam,” Pegu stated.
The first phase includes schools in districts such as Barpeta, Bajali, Sribhumi, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara Mankachar, and Udalguri. The evaluators, comprising a mix of government officials, ministers, MPs, MLAs, IAS, IPS, and education professionals, will assess the performance of students in government and provincialized schools, including Adarsha Vidyalayas, Tea Garden Model Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, and other specialized institutions.
In a show of support, the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) has pledged full cooperation. Dr. Jayanta Baruah, President of ACTA, assured active participation in the initiative. Education Minister Pegu expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the collective effort required to enhance the state’s educational standards.
“Dr. Jayanta Baruah, President of the Assam College Teachers’ Association, informed me over the phone that ACTA will fully cooperate with and actively participate in Gunotsav 2025. This state government initiative to assess and enhance school education is set to begin on January 6, 2025. My best wishes to everyone involved,” Pegu shared on X.
Gunotsav 2025 represents Assam’s commitment to fostering quality education, ensuring accountability, and creating a brighter future for its students.
