Body of Missing 27-Year-Old Found in Sikkim’s Chalamthang Jungle
Gangtok: The body of Bishal Gurung, a 27-year-old man reported missing since December 30, 2024, was discovered in Chalamthang jungle, Sikkim, on January 3. Gurung had been the subject of a missing person complaint filed by his father at the Pakyong Police Station on December 31.
Authorities confirmed the body was found hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck, indicating a likely suicide. An inquest was conducted at the scene in the presence of independent witnesses before the body was sent to the New STNM Hospital for autopsy.
Police have stated that no foul play has been detected at this stage, though investigations remain ongoing under UD Case No. 01/2025, registered under Section 194 of BNSS, 2023.
No arrests or detentions have been made in connection with the case. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding Gurung’s death.
