Meghalaya Cricket Association Secures Land for New Cricket Ground in Mukhla

Shillong: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has taken a significant step in expanding cricket infrastructure by finalizing plans for a new cricket ground in Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills District. On January 4, a tripartite lease agreement was signed for a 5.93-acre land parcel between Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, the West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association (WJHDCA), and MCA.

This initiative reflects MCA’s commitment to fostering cricket development in Meghalaya, particularly in rural areas, by creating state-of-the-art facilities to nurture local talent. The land acquisition was made possible through the efforts of WJHDCA, with strong support from local MLA Wailad Shylla, a passionate advocate for cricket in the region.

The lease agreement ceremony saw the participation of prominent stakeholders, including WJHDCA President Eddystone Shylla, MLA Wailad Shylla, and key MCA officials such as President Naba Bhattacharjee, Vice President Rayonald Kharkamni, Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, and Secretary Weibor Sohlang. Representatives of Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, led by President Hamran Shylla and General Secretary Hachwa Suna, also attended the event, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this development.

MCA President Naba Bhattacharjee expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun and highlighted the land’s strategic location, which is conveniently accessible from the highway. A thorough site inspection confirmed the land’s suitability for a standard cricket ground, marking it as a prime spot for sports development.

The proposed cricket ground will include all necessary facilities to support the growth of cricket in the region. This project will complement an adjacent football stadium currently under construction, creating a hub for sports activities in the area. The new ground is expected to serve as a catalyst for cricket in Meghalaya, inspiring young talent and boosting the region’s sporting infrastructure.
