Mizoram Health Minister Establishes Core Committee to Monitor Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV)

AIZAWL — Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii chaired a crucial meeting with health department officials to assess the situation surrounding Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in India and Mizoram. As part of the review, a core committee on HMPV has been formed, with a Rapid Response Team established at both the state and district levels to ensure swift action if needed.

The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) has issued public notices to clarify that HMPV, a respiratory disease with a history of global occurrence, is under constant surveillance. The department confirmed that there have been no recent reports of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) in Mizoram, urging residents to remain calm as the situation is being closely monitored.

To maintain vigilance, all government and private hospitals have been instructed to provide daily reports on ILI and SARI cases. The health department has reassured the public of its preparedness and emphasized that there is no immediate cause for alarm.

Additionally, the ongoing Pneumonia Control Programme and SAANS campaign are being actively implemented across all districts. The health department has called for cooperation from both the public and healthcare officials to ensure the campaign’s success.

Residents have been encouraged to report any suspected cases of ILI or SARI to the nearest hospitals or Health and Wellness Centers. The government’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to safeguarding public health and addressing potential threats with efficiency and transparency.
