Two Deaths Under Suspicious Circumstances in Assam Spark Investigations
Assam: The body of Purnachandra Barman, a student from the Arts Department of Silchar GC College, was found in the Barak River near Katigorah, Cachar, a week after his mysterious disappearance on New Year’s Eve.
The decomposed body was discovered by locals on Tuesday, bringing a tragic end to an extensive search effort.
Barman, a resident of Uzan village in Borkhola, went missing on December 31 after leaving his rented house on Chengkudi Road at around 11 PM.
Despite a missing person report and active searches, his whereabouts remained unknown until the grim discovery.
Family members identified the body, which has been sent for a post-mortem examination at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH).
Preliminary investigations suggest foul play, with police suspecting that Barman may have been murdered and his body dumped in the river. Authorities are working to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
In an unrelated case, the body of Abhishek Choudhury from Kamrup was discovered under mysterious circumstances in room 310 of Hotel Nandan in Tinsukia on the same night. Police recovered syringes and containers from the scene, raising suspicions of foul play. Choudhury’s body has also been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
Both incidents have sent shockwaves through their respective communities, with families and friends demanding swift justice. Police are pursuing leads in both cases to establish the truth and ensure accountability.
