Assam Police Personnel Critically Injured in Attack by Suspected Naga Miscreants During Border Operation

Assam: An Assam Police officer sustained severe injuries after being attacked by suspected Naga miscreants during an inter-state operation against vehicle theft in Yachang C Village, Nagaland, on the night of January 7.

The incident occurred around 8 pm when a police team, led by Officer-in-Charge Gangaram Phukan of Teok and Selenghat police outposts, along with Jatin Bora, conducted a raid in the area. The operation escalated into violence when the team was reportedly surrounded by Naga locals, leading to an assault using sharp weapons.

The injured officer was rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where his condition remains critical.

The attack has intensified concerns over the safety and challenges faced by law enforcement personnel during inter-state operations, especially in sensitive border regions. The incident underscores the need for better coordination between Assam and Nagaland authorities to prevent such violent confrontations.

An investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators, and authorities are expected to review protocols to ensure the safety of police teams operating in volatile areas.
