Manipur CM Warns Against Social Media Rumours, Announces Aid for Displaced Families
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has issued a firm warning against the spread of divisive rumours on social media, which he says are designed to fuel enmity between communities.
In a public statement, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the malicious intent of certain individuals and assured the public that his government is taking steps to identify and penalize those responsible.
“I have come to know that some miscreants are spreading rumours through social media to create enmity between two communities. I have instructed concerned departments to find out who are the culprits,” he stated, underscoring his administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward attempts to disrupt communal harmony.
Amidst these warnings, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to support those affected by recent unrest. He announced the distribution of financial assistance to thousands of displaced individuals currently living in relief camps.
As part of this initiative, 5,225 displaced persons are receiving ₹5,000 each, while another 80 individuals are being provided ₹10,000 each. This financial aid aims to offer immediate relief to families grappling with the fallout of the crisis, which has forced many to abandon their homes.
Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to not only addressing the immediate needs of those displaced but also exploring long-term rehabilitation measures to ensure their well-being. Essential services and relief efforts are being prioritized as part of the broader initiative to stabilize the affected communities and foster recovery.
The Chief Minister also issued an appeal for unity, urging the public to verify information before sharing it online to avoid exacerbating tensions. “Unity is essential for the peace and progress of our state,” he said, emphasizing the need for responsible behavior in the digital age.
Manipur has faced heightened tensions in recent months, and the government is ramping up efforts to safeguard its citizens and restore stability. By addressing misinformation and extending relief to affected families, Singh’s administration aims to maintain peace and protect the welfare of all communities in the state.
