Assam Special DGP: Efforts to Dewater Umrangso Coal Mine Shaft Ongoing

Assam: Search and rescue operations in the Dima Hasao coal mine incident took a significant turn as one body was recovered from the bottom of the mine shaft. The operation, involving multiple agencies, continues amid challenging conditions to locate the remaining trapped miners.

Special DGP of Assam, Harmeet Singh, shared details of the ongoing mission, highlighting the complexities faced by rescue teams. “One body was found at the bottom of the shaft. Yesterday, the water was very murky and acidic, which hampered visibility. Today, four divers, including NDRF and Army personnel, successfully retrieved the body. The Navy’s ROV (remotely operated vehicle) scanned the shaft using its photography and sonar capabilities but did not detect any additional findings,” Singh stated.

The incident has raised alarms about safety protocols in coal mines across the region, with authorities launching an investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragedy. Rescue teams are working tirelessly under adverse conditions to ensure no efforts are spared in locating the remaining miners.

As the operation progresses, authorities continue to coordinate resources and expertise, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of a resolution. Further updates are awaited as the rescue mission faces the dual challenge of time and hazardous conditions.
