Residents Block Assam-Arunachal Road Over Dire Condition

Assam: Frustrated residents of Margherita and nearby areas staged a road blockade on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border road on Tuesday night, demanding immediate repairs to the severely deteriorated route connecting Margherita in Assam to Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh.

The road, a vital link between the two regions, has been in disrepair for years, rendering it nearly unusable for vehicles. Repeated complaints and appeals to authorities have gone unanswered, prompting locals to take matters into their own hands.

The blockade caused a complete halt to traffic until midnight, as protesters gathered to voice their anger against the Margherita police and Co-District Commissioner. The agitation only subsided after officials from the Margherita Co-District administration arrived at the scene and assured residents of prompt action to address the issue.

Residents highlighted the immense difficulties caused by the road’s condition, which has disrupted daily commutes and transportation in the region. While the assurance from authorities has temporarily pacified the protest, locals remain adamant about seeing actual progress. They have warned of further demonstrations if their demands are not met swiftly.
