Sikkim: Namchi Police Intensify Drunken Driving Crackdown During Maghey Mela Festivities

Sikkim: In a bid to enhance road safety and reduce accidents during the ongoing Maghey Mela celebrations, the Namchi District Police in Sikkim have launched a stringent campaign against drunken driving. The initiative underscores the district’s commitment to ensuring public safety during high-traffic and festive periods.

To enforce the measures, police have established checkpoints at key locations across the district, where drivers are being rigorously screened for alcohol consumption. Those found driving under the influence face strict penalties, including hefty fines, license suspensions, and potential legal action. The move aims to deter reckless driving and promote responsible behavior among motorists.

Authorities have also called upon local residents to actively support the crackdown by cooperating with law enforcement and reporting any violations they observe. The police emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility and urged the community to work together in creating safer streets during the festive season and beyond.
