Arunachal: Yupia’s Golden Jubilee Stadium Earns Global Recognition with Class 2 Athletics Certification
Itanagar: The Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh, has achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the prestigious Class 2 Athletics Facility Certificate from World Athletics.
This certification, issued on January 14, 2025, is a major advancement for sports infrastructure in Northeast India, validating the stadium’s compliance with all technical standards required for hosting World Athletics competitions. The certification is valid until July 2029.
The state-of-the-art track, manufactured by Gallant Sports & Infra Pvt Ltd., underwent meticulous testing and evaluation conducted by international agencies, including Nopnada Group Limited Partnership, Sportline Montenegro, and Kanstet Ltd. This rigorous process underscores the high standards upheld by the facility, making it one of the few internationally certified athletic venues in India.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting its significance for the region. Taking to Twitter, he stated, “We are proud to announce that the track constructed at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium, Yupia, has been granted the Class 2 Athletics Facility Certificate by the World Athletics Organization. Notably, this project is the second in the country and the first in the Northeast to be completed under the visionary ‘Make in India’ initiative launched by our Hon PM Shri @narendramodiji.”
This achievement positions the stadium as a potential hub for athletics in the northeastern region, enabling it to host both national and international events. It also marks a significant step forward in India’s growing capabilities in sports infrastructure development, particularly under the “Make in India” initiative. The recognition not only boosts the region’s prominence in athletics but also paves the way for future opportunities to promote sports excellence in the country.
