Guwahati: Bihu Festivities Marred by Tragedy as Young Man Murdered in Kahilipara
Guwahati: A tragic incident during Bihu celebrations in Kahilipara has left the community in shock, as a young man was murdered following a late-night altercation near the Kahilipara Post Office.
The victim, identified as Akash Choudhury, reportedly became embroiled in a heated argument with friends while drinking. The argument escalated into violence, culminating in his untimely death. Local residents allege there may have been an attempt to disguise the murder as an accident, as Akash’s body bore visible injuries.
Police were alerted to the scene and transported the body to Hayat Hospital, where doctors confirmed Akash’s death. The victim’s grieving mother has called for justice, expressing anguish over her son’s brutal killing and urging authorities to act swiftly.
The Bhagadattapur police have identified four suspects in connection with the crime: Banojit Rajbanshi, Tapan, Mallik, and Jiyarul Ali. According to sources, Jiyarul Ali has confessed to his involvement in the murder, providing critical leads for the ongoing investigation. However, the remaining three suspects are currently absconding, prompting a city-wide manhunt.
The incident has cast a dark shadow over the festive spirit of Bihu, leaving residents deeply shaken. Local authorities have assured the community that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety and security in the area.
