Six Arrested in Connection with Abduction and Death of Manipur Resident

Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested six individuals linked to the abduction and tragic death of Md. Nawash (33), a resident of Keirang Mayai Leikai under Heingang Police Station. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, highlighting growing concerns over criminal activities in the state.

Md. Nawash was reportedly abducted on January 14, 2025, with ransom demands allegedly made by suspected members of the militant group AT. Despite efforts to locate him, the victim was found dead and brought to Thoubal District Hospital on January 16.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sagolsem Chingkheinganba Singh (25), Chingakham Sanatomba Singh (19), Sapam Somorjit Singh (32), Maibam Bokenjit Singh (24), Athokpam Jiban Singh (30), and Chingakham Mani Singh (41). Authorities believe their arrest marks a significant step in unraveling the full scope of the crime.

Manipur Police have launched an extensive investigation to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement and establish any direct links to the militant group. This incident underscores the urgency for enhanced law enforcement measures to curb rising criminal activities and safeguard public safety in the region.
