Guwahati Gears Up for Inaugural Asian Film Festival 2025
Guwahati: The city of Guwahati is set to host the first-ever Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2025 from February 7 to 9 at the historic Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio. This landmark event will bring together film enthusiasts, creators, and industry professionals to celebrate the rich and dynamic storytelling traditions of Asia.
The festival will open with the Iranian film In the Arms of the Tree, directed by Babak Khajehpasha, and conclude with My Melbourne, a collaborative film by acclaimed directors Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, Onir, and Kabir Khan. Organised by Trending Now Media, GAFF 2025 aims to not only showcase Asian cinema but also highlight the vibrant cinematic traditions of Assam and the Northeast region.
With over 200 feature films from countries like Iran, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Turkey, the festival promises a transformative cinematic journey. A special competitive section dedicated to films from Northeast India will celebrate excellence in categories such as Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Performance.
Speaking at a press conference, Honorary Festival Director Monita Borgohain expressed her excitement, stating, “GAFF 2025 is a vibrant celebration of Asia’s storytelling traditions. Each film has been carefully curated to captivate audiences and inspire filmmakers, fostering meaningful conversations and cultural exchange.”
In addition to screenings, the festival will feature panel discussions and workshops led by renowned filmmakers and industry experts. These sessions aim to promote dialogue, collaboration, and opportunities for future creative projects.
Encouraging public participation, Honorary Programme Director Kishore Kumar Sarma remarked, “This festival brings the world to Guwahati, offering cinephiles the chance to experience diverse cultures and artistic expressions right here in Assam. We urge everyone to join this cinematic celebration.”
GAFF 2025 is poised to be a transformative cultural event, bridging artistic traditions across Asia while shining a spotlight on the Northeast’s creative potential.
