Manipur: DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 Kicks Off at Historic Mapal Kangjeibung
Imphal: The DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 commenced in a grand ceremony at Mapal Kangjeibung, the world’s oldest polo ground, captivating an audience of 2,700 polo enthusiasts and dignitaries.
The prestigious event, organized by the Assam Rifles in partnership with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA), aims to celebrate Manipur’s rich polo heritage and foster emerging talent in the sport.
The championship, running from January 20 to February 8, 2025, features 32 teams, including 27 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams, showcasing intense competition and exceptional horsemanship.
Major General Ravroop Singh, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), inaugurated the event alongside other notable dignitaries, including Lt Gen (Retd.) Dr. Konsam Himalay Singh and AMPA President Dr. Konsam Saratchandra Singh.
The opening day witnessed thrilling matches as Black Watch Polo Club clashed with Lamaan Polo Club, while the Assam Rifles Women’s Team squared off against the MPSC Polo Team. The Assam Rifles Pipe Band added grandeur to the occasion with a spectacular performance, further energizing the crowd.
This championship not only underscores the sporting excellence of the region but also highlights the commitment of Assam Rifles to preserving Manipur’s historical association with polo. The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of skill, sportsmanship, and cultural pride, drawing attention to Manipur’s pivotal role in the global polo community.
