Tripura: Bangladeshi National Detained with Arms and Ammunition in Agartala

Agartala: Tripura Police detained a Bangladeshi national and seized arms and ammunition from his possession during a raid conducted in the Milan Chakra area of Agartala city on January 21.

According to Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Deba Prasad Roy, the operation was carried out following a tip-off about a Bangladeshi individual residing in the area as a tenant for the past six months with illegal arms and ammunition.

During the raid, the police detained the suspect, identified as Shamaj Prio Chakma, a resident of Khagrachari in Bangladesh.

The police seized a 9mm pistol, two cartridges, ₹2 lakh in Indian currency, and 25,000 Bangladeshi taka from his possession.

The SDPO confirmed that two cases have been registered against the detainee, and further investigations are underway to uncover additional details regarding his activities.

The case has raised concerns about cross-border security and the presence of unauthorized individuals in the state, prompting authorities to intensify their vigilance.
