Assam Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 2 Crore in South Salmara District

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, South Salmara Mankachar Police in Assam seized heroin worth Rs 2 crore during an operation on January 22.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the police launched the raid, targeting a house in the district where a substantial quantity of drugs was suspected to be stored.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 252 grams of heroin concealed within the premises. The contraband is believed to have been transported from a neighboring state.

One individual was arrested in connection with the case, and authorities have initiated further investigations to uncover the network behind the illegal trade.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for their swift and effective action. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote, “South Salmara Police acts on credible intel, seizes heroin worth Rs 2 crore… One person has been arrested and further investigation is on. Good job!”

The seizure underscores Assam’s continued crackdown on drug trafficking under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarma. The state has intensified efforts to dismantle drug syndicates and safeguard communities from the adverse effects of narcotics. This latest success adds to the series of achievements by Assam Police in their relentless pursuit of a drug-free society.
