Meghalaya Pushes to Host National Games 2027, Seeks Centre’s Support
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has sought Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s support to host the National Games in 2027.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sangma confirmed receiving a positive response from Shah, who emphasized the importance of hosting the games in the Northeast and assured central assistance for the event to take place in Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister also revealed that he held discussions with the chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) regarding the state’s bid. He highlighted the significance of the games as an opportunity to showcase Meghalaya’s potential and promote sports infrastructure development.
In a separate matter, CM Sangma addressed challenges surrounding the relocation of families from defence land. He stated that delays are being faced due to military guidelines and restrictions. While the state government’s proposal for land transfer has not been approved, the Ministry of Defence outlined strict provisions and requirements for granting plots of defence land.
Sangma acknowledged the complexities of adhering to Army regulations for relocation but affirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issue. The state continues to work on balancing developmental priorities with existing guidelines.
