Security Forces Apprehend Three Militants Involved in Extortion in Manipur
Imphal: In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur apprehended three active members of proscribed militant groups involved in extortion activities in separate raids conducted on January 22 and 23, 2025.
Two members of the banned outfit KCP(PWG), identified as Thokchom Luxmikanta Singh alias Hapu (28) and Dinesh Thokchom alias Don (23), were arrested from the Uningkhong area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal District.
The duo was caught red-handed while extorting money. Recovered items included two 9mm pistols with magazines, five live rounds, ₹10,000 in cash, three mobile phones, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
In another operation, an active cadre of the banned KYKL group, identified as Maibam Bronson Singh alias Thambou alias Ngamba (24), was apprehended from the Langol Type III area under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District.
He was involved in extorting money from the public and shop owners. Security forces recovered a mobile handset, a SIM card, a driving license, and a two-wheeler vehicle from his possession.
Authorities have launched investigations to identify other associates and dismantle these extortion networks. The operations reflect ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and ensure the safety of residents in the region.
