Meghalaya: Eight Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in West Garo Hills, Snakes Seized

Shillong: In a significant operation, Meghalaya Police apprehended eight suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, in the West Garo Hills district on January 24.

The group was allegedly found to have crossed the international border illegally through the Dalu area.

During the arrest, two snakes were seized from their possession, raising further questions about their intentions.

According to an official statement, legal proceedings have been initiated against the detainees.

The reptiles, believed to have been transported illegally, have been handed over to wildlife officials for appropriate action.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the group’s motives for entering Indian territory.

This arrest follows another successful operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya earlier this week.

Six Bangladeshi nationals, including two children, were intercepted while attempting to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Jaintia Hills.

During routine surveillance, BSF personnel from the 172 Battalion detected suspicious activity and acted promptly to detain the group.

The detained individuals in the BSF case admitted to having entered India months earlier and working as domestic helpers in Bangalore.
