Arunachal: Massive Wildfire Erupts Near Tawang Chu River, Villages Spared

Itanagar: A massive wildfire broke out near the Tawang Chu River in Arunachal Pradesh on January 24, threatening the villages of Sagkyur and surrounding areas as the blaze spread rapidly across the region.

Upon receiving reports of the fire, the Lungla administration, with swift support from Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indian Army personnel from the Tawang Brigade, local police, and residents, launched an immediate operation to contain the fire.

Their coordinated efforts successfully prevented the flames from reaching residential areas, averting potential loss of life and property, according to district officials.

Despite the containment near villages, the fire continues to rage in the dense jungle, fueled by the steep mountainous terrain and the inaccessibility of the affected areas.

The challenging geography has made firefighting efforts particularly difficult, prompting authorities to remain on high alert to prevent further spread.

Lungla’s Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ama Nungnu Mara, and District Disaster Management Officer, Genden Tsomu, are leading coordination efforts on the ground.

Their teams are working tirelessly to monitor the situation and devise strategies to mitigate the impact of the wildfire.

While the immediate threat to villages has been neutralized, the fire’s persistence in the forested areas poses an ongoing challenge.

Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
