Meghalaya: Mawlai SC-Shillong Lajong FC Secure Resounding Wins in OC Blue Shillong Premier League

Shillong: Defending champions Mawlai SC and Shillong Lajong FC dominated their respective matches in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 on January 25, securing massive victories at the SSA Stadium in Polo.

Mawlai SC delivered one of the most dominant performances in the history of the competition, defeating Ryntih FC 10-1, while Lajong FC followed suit with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Sawmer SC.

Lajong’s attacking prowess was on full display as they raced to a 6-0 win. Goals from Yohaan Benjamin (10′), Riborlang L Lyngkhoi (25′), Deibormame Tongper (27′, 61′), and Babysunday Marngar (54′, 59′) sealed the comfortable victory.

Meanwhile, Mawlai SC, after a slightly slower start, erupted in the second half, scoring 10 goals to completely dismantle Ryntih.

Khrawkupar Jana (27′), Fullmoon Mukhim (33′), Samlang Rympei (39′), Arkibor Makhroh (43′), Baiaikara Swer (48′, 89′), Reformer Pale (66′, 78′), Banskhemlang Mawlong (70′), and Overkindness L Mawnai (90’+1) were the scorers for Mawlai. Ryntih managed to pull one goal back through Basuklang Bina (56′), but the match was long out of their reach.

The results have further solidified Mawlai’s position at the top of the SPL standings with 28 points from 10 matches, while Shillong Lajong remain in second place with 25 points.

Sawmer SC, now on a four-match losing streak, sits in seventh with 11 points, while Ryntih FC languish at the bottom with just 3 points, marking their ninth consecutive defeat.

In their previous encounters this season, both Mawlai and Lajong secured 4-1 victories against Ryntih and Sawmer, respectively. However, on this occasion, the two Shillong football giants raised their game to another level, dominating their opponents in even more emphatic fashion.

Mawlai, who struggled to break the deadlock in the first 30 minutes, found their rhythm once they opened the scoring.

Despite the one-sided nature of the match, the only setback for Mawlai was an injury to forward Khrawkupar Jana, who was struck by Ryntih’s goalkeeper Derick Khongsit while scoring the first goal.

Mawlai’s goal-scoring spree continued with their forwards finding the back of the net at will. Donlad Diengdoh, however, was unlucky not to score, being denied several times throughout the match.

Reformer Pale, coming on as a substitute, had a chance to score a hat-trick but struck the crossbar in front of an open goal, settling for two goals instead.

Lajong’s Deibormame Tongper and Babysunday Marngar also sought personal hat-tricks, but despite several attempts, they couldn’t convert.

Both players have previously scored trebles in the tournament, with Babysunday having netted one in Lajong’s 6-1 win over Nongthymmai SC earlier in the competition.

The SPL action continues tomorrow with the 11th round, featuring Nangkiew Irat SC facing Langsning FC at 11:00 AM, followed by Rangdajied United FC against Nongrim Hills SC at 2:30 PM.

In the first leg, Nangkiew Irat came from behind to win 3-1 against Langsning, while Rangdajied narrowly edged Nongrim Hills 1-0.
