Meghalaya CM Inaugurates First Referral Unit at Ranikor CHC, Engages with Local Residents
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the First Referral Unit (FRU) at the Ranikor Community Health Center (CHC) in South West Khasi Hills District on January 25, marking a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in the region.
The newly launched FRU will provide comprehensive emergency obstetric care, surgical services, and critical care, with a focus on the safety and well-being of mothers, infants, and individuals.
The state government’s decision to upgrade Community Health Centers (CHCs) to FRUs is aimed at reducing the burden on district and tertiary hospitals, while improving access to healthcare in remote areas.
Ranikor’s FRU is part of the first phase of this initiative, which includes the activation of other CHCs in Mawphlang, Bhoirymbong, Pynursla, and Resubelpara.
Six additional CHCs, including Namdong, Riangdo, Patharkhmah, Selsella, Phulbari, and Dalu, are slated for activation in the second phase.
In addition to the inauguration, CM Sangma also engaged with local residents of Ranikor, listening to their concerns and offering solutions to various issues.
The interactions were part of the CM Connect program, which is designed to promote public outreach and strengthen the relationship between the government and the people. This was the sixth such event, with the previous one held in Nongstoin in December 2024.
During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government is dedicated to serving the people, and programs like CM Connect are vital for ensuring the accountability and efficiency of the government machinery.
