Meghalaya Police Arrest Man for Alleged Bomb Threats Ahead of Republic Day
Shillong: Meghalaya’s police have arrested a 37-year-old man, Edward Maiong, for allegedly posting threat messages about planting bombs in the state.
The arrest was made from his residence in Lower New Colony, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
Following the arrest, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong reassured the public that all district administrations have been instructed to take the necessary measures to ensure a peaceful Republic Day celebration on January 26.
Tynsong, speaking to reporters, confirmed that the police are conducting an investigation into the matter, with further details expected soon.
He emphasized that the state’s police force has heightened its vigilance and security in light of the threat.
The police have also ramped up security protocols, including strict checks and patrolling exercises across the state.
A police official revealed that Maiong had been using his mobile device to send the threat messages, which was subsequently seized by authorities.
Authorities continue to work on gathering more information as they investigate the nature of the threats.
