Tripura Highlights Unique Kharchi Puja Tradition in Republic Day Tableau
Agartala: Tripura brought its rich cultural heritage to the forefront during the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi with a stunning tableau on Kartavya Path.
The tableau, titled “Eternal Tribute: Worship of 14 Deities,” showcased the state’s unique Kharchi Puja tradition, which pays homage to 14 deities in a vibrant festival aimed at fostering harmony and prosperity.
The tableau’s first segment ingeniously combined traditional bamboo craftsmanship with modern design elements.
A striking circular bamboo frame represented progress, while dancers adorned in traditional attire performed, capturing the essence of Tripura’s folk culture and art.
The second segment featured a meticulously crafted altar that housed the 14 deities central to Kharchi Puja.
The bamboo-and-cane temple structure, embellished with symbolic ornaments, incorporated tribal architectural motifs and geometric patterns.
Adding authenticity, a priest in traditional attire was depicted performing rituals to honour Mata Habu, or Mother Earth, beneath a canopy-like structure.
Intricate bamboo carvings and floral motifs throughout the tableau highlighted Tripura’s traditional artistry, seamlessly blending with modern aesthetics.
The display offered a vivid representation of the state’s spiritual and cultural traditions, captivating spectators and emphasizing the importance of preserving indigenous practices.
