Indian Army and Security Forces Seize Massive Cache of Weapons in Manipur

Imphal: In a series of meticulously planned joint operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other security agencies have recovered a significant cache of weapons and warlike stores across Manipur.

These operations, targeting insurgent activities in both hill and valley regions, have led to the recovery of 35 weapons, along with explosives and other ammunition, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated efforts to curb insurgency in the state.

The operations began on January 19, 2025, with a focused mission in the Lungkhongjang ridge near Bungte Chiru village in Bishnupur district.

Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces recovered a modified sniper rifle, five 9mm pistols, two single-barrel rifles, grenades, and additional warlike stores.

On January 20, another successful operation in the border regions of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts yielded a 9mm submachine gun, a .303 rifle, pistols, a single-barrel breach-loaded gun, a country-made mortar, and grenades.

Simultaneously, Assam Rifles thwarted an infiltration attempt in Tengnoupal district along the Indo-Myanmar border, apprehending a suspect linked to the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) insurgent group.

Further intelligence-driven operations in Noney and Thoubal districts resulted in the seizure of various firearms, grenades, and ammunition.

On January 23, joint operations by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Thoubal and Jiribam districts led to the recovery of hand grenades, pistols, and rifles.

The success continued in Chandel, Imphal West, and Kakching districts, where operations on January 24 and 25 led to the seizure of a self-loading rifle, carbine machine gun, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other weapons.

The arrested individuals, along with the recovered arms and ammunition, have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation.

The operations underline the commitment of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and state security forces to ensuring peace and security in the region, effectively countering the threats posed by insurgent groups and illegal arms proliferation.
