Harmeet Singh Takes Over as Acting DGP of Assam

Guwahati: Special DGP Harmeet Singh has been given the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, following the release of Gyanendra Pratap Singh from state services.

Singh will oversee the duties of the DGP until a permanent successor is appointed.

Meanwhile, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, a 1991-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer, has joined the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as its Director General.

Singh’s new tenure will last until his retirement in November 2027 or until further orders.

Harmeet Singh, who is currently serving as the Special DGP of Headquarters and Border, Director General of Civil Defence, Commandant General of Home Guards, and Director of Fire and Emergency Services, will temporarily oversee the responsibilities of the DGP.

Gyanendra Pratap Singh had served as the DGP of Assam since February 1, 2023, and had earlier played a key role in managing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam in 2019.
