Assam: Mother and Daughter Killed in Elephant Attack in Udalguri District
Assam: A tragic incident occurred on Monday night in Dimakuchi village, Udalguri district, when a herd of elephants strayed into the area, resulting in the death of a woman and her daughter.
The victims, identified as 60-year-old Lalmek Karmakar and her 35-year-old daughter Apu Karmakar, were asleep in their home when the elephants reportedly attacked, causing fatal injuries to both.
The attack happened in the dead of night, and despite the immediate arrival of local authorities and villagers, both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem as part of the investigation.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about human-elephant conflict in the region. Last month, a similar tragedy occurred when 45-year-old Baida Boro was killed by an elephant while cutting straw in a nearby forest in the Rani’s Puranbari locality near Guwahati.
Such attacks have become increasingly frequent, raising alarm among local residents and authorities alike about the dangers posed by elephants straying into populated areas.
Efforts to mitigate these incidents, including better management of wildlife and improved safety measures for villagers, are now more urgent than ever.
